About

Future Blocks is a project that puts children in the driver’s seat when it comes to designing the public spaces they use every day, from streets and parks to the in-between spots that matter most to them.

Co-led by Vivita Lahenduste Laboratoorium and the Estonian National Library, and backed by the EU’s CERV programme, Future Blocks runs hands-on design sprints across 6 locations in Estonia. Children work alongside local mentors, municipalities and libraries to turn their ideas into real decisions and real budget lines.

The project builds an open-source toolkit any municipality or school can pick up and run with, trains local facilitators, and makes sure children can see exactly what happened with their ideas through a simple "You Said, We Did" feedback loop.

Running from January 2026 to December 2027, Future Blocks is about making child participation a normal part of how communities are built, in Estonia and across Europe.

Our Mission

We believe children should have a real say in shaping the places they live, play and grow up in. Future Blocks exists to make that happen, by turning children’s ideas into concrete decisions that municipalities actually act on.
